11th July, 2024

The faculty of science in collaboration with the Science club organized a talk on farming for the students of class VIII and members of the science club. The resource person was Mr. Cleto Fernandes an ex-student that passed out in 2020 and is currently doing his final year in agriculture at Ella farm, Old Goa. Tr. Eustargia welcomed the gathering and introduced Cleto to the audience as a teenage entrepreneur drawing their attention to all his accomplishments in a short period of time. Cleto began his talk with a presentation that spoke about his entire journey that has now become his life and passion.

He spoke about the various crops that he has cultivated, production of manure using cow dung and cow urine and also preparing compost using BSF larvae. Our students were greatly benefited and had a lot of queries that were spoken about during the talk. He finally spoke about his poultry passion and also showed our boys newly hatched timid chicks. He also discussed about expanding his agricultural produce focusing on producing organic manure, pot processing crops and increasing Panjim's green cover. Tr.Muriel proposed the vote of thanks. A token of appreciation was presented to Cleto by the science club members. He ended the session by saying the following " One can make farming a viable profession. It is only when you get down to the field, you do learn much more than the theory thought in any degree course in Agriculture".
