The students of the Consumer Club embarked on a field trip to the fire station at St.Inez which was extremely informative and educational. The students were given a comprehensive tour of the station, where they observed the different types of fire trucks, emergency equipment (water bowser, emergency truck, emergency bike, TTl Turn Table Ladder etc.) and their uses in different emergency situations. The fire personnel also spoke about the coordination involved in responding to emergency situations and how they prepare themselves in under 1 min where the alarm goes off. The students also got to see the smoke stimulation chamber and other facilities used as practice arenas for the fire personnel.
The most exciting and awaited section of the field trip was when the fire personnel had an interactive session on the different fires they encounter, in domestic habitations, what are the sources/causes of the fires that take place, precautionary measures and how to extinguish the fires using the various fire extinguishers. Through this field trip our consumer club students have gained a deeper appreciation of public services and the importance of being informed and responsible consumers, particularly in the context of personal and household safety.
