Don Bosco High School, Panjim, had the privilege of hosting the PRATYeK team for an engaging and thought-provoking session on child rights, children’s participation, protection, well-being and sustainable development. PRATYeK, founded in 2013, works across India to promote child rights and earth rights and holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).
The school was honoured to welcome Steve Rocha, Founder and Vision and Identity Leader of PRATYeK, who brings over 27 years of experience in social work and a strong commitment to child rights and earth rights. The team also included Sr. Connie, who oversees administration and school coordination; Pravin Jawale, Programme Coordinator for the West Zone; and Pooja, School Coordinator and member of PRATYeK’s Inclusive United Nations initiative.
The session introduced students to significant themes including the Children’s Manifesto, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Inclusive Development Goals. The programme went beyond a conventional presentation, encouraging students to think critically, ask questions, share their opinions and understand the importance of their voice and participation.
The interactive nature of the session encouraged them to reflect on the world around them, understand their rights and responsibilities, and consider how they could contribute towards creating a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and child-friendly society.
The session encouraged them to recognise that children and young people are not merely recipients of change but can also be active participants in shaping a better future.
