Our final year students were given the opportunity to explore three distinct possibilities and avenues they can pursue in the near future. Throughout this academic year, Class X students will have access to seminars, resources and experts who will guide them and answer pertinent questions regarding “next steps” when it comes to further studies and careers. Here’s a summary of three key workshops that were held this month:  Opportunities in the Merchant Navy An insightful workshop on opportunities in the Merchant Navy and the maritime industry was held for the students of Class X. It was conducted in collaboration with GMOA – Goa, an organisation comprising deck officers and marine engineers. The school was privileged to welcome experienced maritime professionals Deepak Souza, and Desmond Fernandes as resource persons. Souza, who has been sailing on chemical tankers since 2001 and is presently serving as a Chief Engineer, shared valuable insights from his extensive experience at sea. Fernandes shared his experience as a Technical Superintendent and Chief Engineer, spanning over two decades of experience in the Merchant Navy.Through their personal experiences and professional journeys, the speakers gave students a realistic understanding of life at sea, the responsibilities of marine professionals, educational pathways, career opportunities and the importance of discipline, technical skills, perseverance and continuous learning. Opportunities in the Indian Navy A special workshop titled ‘Career Opportunities in the Indian Navy’ was also organised for the students of Class X this month. The programme was conducted as part of the Goa Naval Area Outreach Programme, with the objective of creating awareness among students and motivating them to explore opportunities in the Armed Forces. The school was honoured to welcome Commander Pradeep Kumar, along with Lieutenant Commander Akansha Singh and Petty Officer Air Electrical Rajkishore Pradhan, as resource persons for the session. Commander Pradeep Kumar, who has served in the Indian Navy for over 25 years, shared insights from his distinguished career in the Naval Aviation Cadre. His personal journey, from a modest rural background to becoming a commissioned officer, was particularly inspiring and highlighted the importance of determination, perseverance, academic development and professional excellence.   Opportunities in Civil Services An interactive Career Guidance Session was conducted by Ryan Pinto, Proprietor of Knowledge Valley, which provides guidance and coaching for competitive government examinations such as UPSC and MPSC. Pinto, who also serves as the National Coordinator for Civil Services of the All India Catholic Union (AICU) and as a resource person for the Bombay Catholic Sabha Academy for Civil Services Training (BCSACT), introduced students to various opportunities available through competitive examinations and government services. Through an engaging and interactive session, students gained a clearer understanding of the differences between government and private-sector careers, including their respective pathways, opportunities and preparation requirements.   

Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated this year with a deep appreciation for Goa’s rich cultural traditions. Students had the opportunity to understand the significance of the festival while actively participating in traditional art, craft and cultural activities. The school campus was filled with colour and creativity as students enthusiastically took part in a variety of Ganesh Chaturthi-themed activities. Decorative items such as leaf-print images of Lord Ganesha, torans, rangolis and colourful garlands were created by the students, showcasing their imagination and artistic skills. These traditional decorations added a festive touch to the classrooms and learning spaces. A special focus was placed on traditional crafts. Students explored the art of clay idol-making, creating their own eco-friendly statues. They also learnt about the traditional Matoli, an important part of Goan Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, and created their own Matoli arrangements using natural and seasonal produce. The activities helped students connect with local traditions while appreciating the importance of using natural materials. The festive spirit continued with an appreciation of traditional sweets associated with Ganesh Chaturthi. Students learnt about the different delicacies prepared during the festival, gaining a deeper understanding of the culinary traditions that form an integral part of the celebrations. The celebrations were a meaningful blend of culture and creativity. Through these engaging activities, students not only celebrated a cherished festival but also gained a deeper appreciation of Goa’s cultural heritage and the importance of preserving its traditions.

Photo Gallery This summer vacation was the most exciting and adventurous experience I have had till date. My family and I travelled to Uttarakhand in May to go on a Himalayan trekking expedition. No sooner than we got to the base camp, we started to notice the mesmerising beauty of snow-capped Himalayan peaks. As we made our way to these mountains, we encountered breathtaking landscapes of rivers, valleys and lush green forests with quaint isolated high-altitude villages. While passing through these mountain communities we got to know about the challenging life of these inhabitants and made a lot of furry friends along the way. Our journey further led us to see the melting glaciers on the mountains creating streams and waterfalls that eventually merged to become a powerful roaring river. We came across various native plant species and were also stung by nettle leaves while venturing through the coniferous woodlands. The cold nights were spent camping in tents under a star-studded sky where we were fortunate to see the Milky Way along with a few shooting stars. Har Ki Dun which translates to ‘The Valley of Shiva’, was our trek's ultimate summit point at 11,400 ft. The valley was surrounded by enormous snow-capped mountains, giving the area a surreal appearance reminiscent of Heaven, hence the name! I was profoundly reminded by this expedition that nature is truly a priceless gift from God and we should make every effort on our part to preserve it.  

On September 5,  the school celebrated Gratitude Day to honour and appreciate all who contribute to the life and functioning of the school — the management, headmaster, teachers, office staff, MTS and every member of the school community. The day began with a prayer service, which set a meaningful tone for the day. It was followed by a celebration in each class presented by the students for their class and subject teachers. The students expressed their gratitude through songs, dance, skits, poems and heartfelt messages. The Student Council, together with the PTA, then presented a special programme for the entire school staff. Their thoughtful gestures and performances were a fitting tribute to everyone, whose dedication, care and hard work contribute to making the school a welcoming and enriching place. The celebration was a beautiful reminder that gratitude is not merely about saying “thank you”, but about recognising the value of every individual and every contribution. The day ended with a renewed appreciation for the many people who work together to make the Bosco family stronger.  

Don Bosco High School, Panjim, had the privilege of hosting the PRATYeK team for an engaging and thought-provoking session on child rights, children’s participation, protection, well-being and sustainable development. PRATYeK, founded in 2013, works across India to promote child rights and earth rights and holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).  The school was honoured to welcome Steve Rocha, Founder and Vision and Identity Leader of PRATYeK, who brings over 27 years of experience in social work and a strong commitment to child rights and earth rights. The team also included Sr. Connie, who oversees administration and school coordination; Pravin Jawale, Programme Coordinator for the West Zone; and Pooja, School Coordinator and member of PRATYeK’s Inclusive United Nations initiative. The session introduced students to significant themes including the Children’s Manifesto, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Inclusive Development Goals. The programme went beyond a conventional presentation, encouraging students to think critically, ask questions, share their opinions and understand the importance of their voice and participation. The interactive nature of the session encouraged them to reflect on the world around them, understand their rights and responsibilities, and consider how they could contribute towards creating a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and child-friendly society. The session encouraged them to recognise that children and young people are not merely recipients of change but can also be active participants in shaping a better future.

The young learners enthusiastically created beautiful, handmade cards to express their appreciation for their mothers. Rakhi Making Activity  Our young boys enthusiastically showcased creativity, imagination, and artistic talents as they designed and prepared beautiful Rakhis. The activity was a wonderful way to understand the significance of the festival and also for the students to express themselves through art. Independence Day Celebration  The Primary Section of Don Bosco High School, Panjim celebrated Independence Day with great patriotic spirit, enthusiasm and pride.The event was a wonderful celebration of patriotism, confidence, creativity and love for our motherland. School Complex Competition Adding colour and excitement to the celebration was the School Complex Competition – Role Play, where our young participants came dressed as their favourite national leaders and brought their inspiring stories to life. Through their confident performances and heartfelt words, our young patriots paid tribute to the great leaders who shaped the nation.

The Don Bosco Night High School and Higher Secondary School, Panjim held a Felicitation Ceremony to celebrate the success of the students at the Goa Board SSC and HSSC Examinations March '26 and Feb '26 respectively. The program began with a prayer of gratitude as also to seek God's blessings on their career ahead. The manager of the institutions Rev. Fr Avin Carvalho addressed the students and staff present and commended their hard work. Most of the students who answered the board exams this year attended school post their office/work hours and despite facing the pressures of work, travel and family obligations managed to secure a good percentage. Father also commended the students for their zeal and enthusiasm to get back to studies and  complete the basic education after dropping out from their schools years ago. Satish Usgaonkar scored the highest at the SSC Examination with 68.33% and Pratima Shirodkar scored the highest at the HSSC Examinations with 65%. The program was followed by a football match on the Don Bosco grounds between the High School and the Higher Secondary School and was won by the Don Bosco Night High School. Past Pupil Aaron Cardoso was the match referee.

KinderWorld 2026 in pictures Mother's Day Celebration On Mother’s Day, students expressed their heartfelt love and gratitude for their mothers by making a special handmade card. Monsoon Magic Activity  Our little preschoolers brought the magic of the monsoon alive through a colourful activity, with each one dressed as clouds, raindrops, umbrellas, and other innovative costumes. Monsoon Drive Preschoolers set on a delightful monsoon drive to Pilar Church. The fun-filled drive helped students explore lush greenery, creating unforgettable rain-day memories. Friendship Day Celebrated with great joy, students shared friendship bands with their classmates. The celebration fostered the values of kindness, sharing, and togetherness. Independence Day The little learners celebrated the week with a vibrant skit, a soulful song and a power-packed dance performance. The celebration was filled with smiles and love for our nation. Little patriots also participated in a vibrant leaf-print activity creating tricolor masterpieces with a lot of enthusiasm. Van Mahotsav Day  Our little nature lovers celebrated Van Mahotsav by joyfully learning how to plant a tree and take care of it. The hands-on-activity fostered a feeling of responsibility of creating a greener tomorrow. Rain Walk  Our young preschoolers enjoyed a fun-filled rainwalk exploring the beauty of the rainy season. They happily splashed, made paper boats and enjoyed a refreshing memorable experience in nature. Monsoon Craft  Kindergarteners exploring the monsoon creatures transformed paper plates into adorable frogs through a fun hands-on activity. They also crafted paper boats which nurtured their imagination, fine motor skills and joyful spirit of learning through play. Medical Check-Up  A medical check-up was conducted for the Pre-Primary and Kindergarten section children. The doctors from the Urban Health Center, Panjim, carried out a general health screening of all children. Parents accompanied their child and cleared their doubts by interacting with the doctors.  

On India’s 80th Independence Day, Don Bosco High School, Panjim, presented a message of uniting generations towards a common goal of lifelong learning and responsible citizenship. The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, Dr. Anthony Viegas, Dean of the Department of Earth Sciences, Goa University, who was escorted by the NCC Cadet Corps. It was followed by the school choir leading all in singing Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, after which the NCC Cadet Corps took a solemn oath, reaffirming their commitment to discipline and service. The dignitaries then proceeded to the Oratory Hall for a cultural programme that highlighted the theme of bridging the old and new generations. Through a creative blend of drama, dance and technology, the presentation demonstrated how tradition and technology can complement each other, allowing generations to learn from one another and contribute towards a stronger nation. At the end, Dr. Viegas addressed the students, reminding them that they are the future of the country. He encouraged them to develop diverse skills that would prepare them for better opportunities and enable them to serve the nation effectively. He also urged them to cultivate the habit of reading and cautioned against using Artificial Intelligence merely for convenience, as overdependence could hinder creativity, independent thinking and the development of knowledge and skills. The celebration concluded with a renewed message of patriotism, inspiring students to contribute meaningfully to the future of a stronger and progressive India.

Glimpses of all the activities of the month! August 2026 in snapshots National Sports Day The day was observed at the school with a variety of athletic drills and activities. It fostered a fun sporting atmosphere for the students. National Sports Day is celebrated in India on August 29 to honor the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. Field Trip to Kshitij 2026 High School students visited Kshitij 2026, the ninth edition of the annual state-level science exhibition hosted by Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. The students explored over 100 school-level and 40 academic projects, showcasing creativity, scientific thinking and innovation. They interacted with young innovators and learned about emerging technologies and sustainable solutions. Filmit Inter-School Programme Don Bosco High School Panjim participated in FILMIT 2026, an innovative multicultural film-making programme that fosters cultural understanding, care and appreciation among schools. It was an exciting platform for students to share their cultural experiences with other students from different parts of India. As part of the programme, students and teachers also attended a content and technical workshop, conducted by experienced content and filmmaking experts. School Health Check-Up A health check-up was conducted at the school to assess the students’ general health and well-being. The students underwent basic health examinations, including height and weight measurement, vision screening, and general medical assessment. The activity helped in identifying possible health concerns and promoting awareness about personal hygiene, nutrition, and healthy habits among students. First Friday Mass And Prayer Service A First Friday Mass was held to bring together students and staff for a time of prayer, reflection and thanksgiving. At the same time, a special prayer service for students of other faiths was organised in the Multipurpose Hall. The observance was a meaningful opportunity for the entire school community to pause, reflect and begin the month with a renewed sense of faith, purpose and togetherness. Student Council Meeting Held with the Headmaster, Supervisors, Coordinators and members of the School Council, the meeting discussed matters related to student discipline, school conduct and the overall well-being of the school community. Glimpses of all the activities of the month! July 2026 Snapshots BAGLESS DAY On Bagless Day, primary class students participated in exciting activities. Students prepared beautiful greeting cards to express their love and gratitude for their grandparents. They also brought and displayed a variety of Goan traditional sweets, celebrating the state’s rich culinary heritage. With no school bags to carry, the day was filled with joyful learning and camaraderie. SNAKE AWARENESS WORKSHOP WWF–India (World Wide Fund for Nature) representative Joel Fernandes conducted an engaging workshop for the students of Classes III and IV. The session aimed to create awareness about snakes by addressing common myths and facts, highlighting their ecological importance and teaching students how to identify some of the common snakes found in the region. Students also learned essential safety measures and the appropriate steps to take if they encounter a snake, fostering respect for wildlife and encouraging responsible behaviour. WEALTH OUT OF WASTE Students, with the support and creativity of their parents, transformed discarded coconut shells and other coconut materials into beautiful and useful craft items. The exhibition encouraged creativity, environmental awareness, and the importance of reusing natural resources.  KOPEL MAKING Students and parents enthusiastically participated in creating beautiful kopels using fresh flowers, leaves, and other natural materials. The activity fostered creativity and encouraged an appreciation for nature and Goan traditions. The wholehearted support and involvement of parents made this a truly remarkable and joyful day for all.  MEMORY MASTERS CHALLENGE To enhance observation, concentration, and vocabulary, students were given, as part of the challenge, one minute to observe a picture containing different objects and then recall and write as many words as they could from memory. The activity helped students strengthen their memory, improve focus, and build confidence in a fun and engaging way. PICTURE READING COMPETITION Held both in English and Konkani, students had to describe images displayed on the screen in their own words. The activity provided a wonderful platform for children to develop their observation skills, vocabulary, communication skills, imagination, and confidence in public speaking. The objective of GTSE is to spot young talents in STEM and acknowledge their talent by offering a cash prize. A total of 50 students from Class VIII-X are recognised in the merit list, with thousands of students from across the state answering the competitive exam. KEENAN D EXCELS AT HOMI BHABHA BALVAIDNYANIK Keenan D was awarded the Silver Medal in the Practical Round and the overall Bronze Medal  at the prestigious Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition. Organised by the Greater Bombay Science Teachers' Association, the competition draws roughly 100,000 students annually from hundreds of different institutions across Maharashtra and neighbouring states. The competition evaluates participants through a rigorous process comprising an online examination, practical assessments, an interview, and an action research project, testing not only scientific knowledge but also its practical application. The award marks a proud moment for Keenan, his family, and the entire school community. ATHLETICS ACHIEVEMENTS ETHAN MAKES A SPLASH IN SWIMMING Ethan G of Class VI brought laurels to the school at the 37th State Junior and Junior Aquatic Championship 2026, organised by the Goa Swimming Association. RONAN G EMERGES AS TT CHAMPION Young Boscoite Ronan G of Class III won First Place in the U-9 category at the BPS All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2026. The tournament was organised by BPS Sports Club in collaboration with the Goa Table Tennis Association. Ronan has trained diligently under the expert guidance of Coach Selvyn Godinho. This triumph came close on the heels of another commendable performance at the 1st All Goa State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organised by Saxtti Sports & Cultural Club and UV Academy under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association. Ronan secured Third Place in the U-9 category and also finished among the Top 8 in the U-11 category, demonstrating remarkable consistency and skill. YOUNG BOSCOITE RAFAN D EXCELS IN ROLLER SKATING Rafan D secured First Place at the Summer Skate Tournament, organised by Skate Mania Roller Skating Academy at the Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim. ISAIAH B WINS SECOND PLACE IN DEADLIFT CHAMPIONSHIP Isaiah B of Class I won Second Place at the IDF Open Goa State Deadlift Championship. He competed in the Teen Boys-40kg category and showcased great strength and athletic prowess. TANISHQ S EARNS FIRST DEGREE BLACK BELT Tanishq S of Class VII  has been awarded the rank of First Degree Junior Black Belt and the title of Sempei in the art of Nippon Budo, with all the rights, honours and privileges attached to this rank. The award was conferred in Mumbai at a national-level event organised by Nippon Budo Sogo International India. INTERSCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS NATHAN D AND ZANIEL C AMONG TOP20 IN CROPS'S GRANDPARENTS COMPETITION Students of Class VIII Nathan D and Zaniel C made the Top 20 list at the state-level Grandparents Competition organised by CROP (Center for Rights of Older People). Nathan was selected in the letter writing competition and Zaniel for photo and frame-making competition.  The competition received over 1,200 entries  from schools all over Goa. The winners were felicitated at an event organised at VM Salgaocar college of Law, Miramar, where Hema Sardessai, the Nightingale of Goa, and Deepak Desai, Director of Social Welfare Department, were the chief guests. BOSCOITES SHINE AT NEW WAVE MUSIC COMPETITION A group of our talented students of Class X won First Place at the Talent of Goa: New Wave music competition. The competition provided a platform for teenagers aged 13-19 to showcase their skills as solo performers and bands. The winning band comprised: Enoch B, Jonathan D, Jovin R, Pravit C, Joy P, and Glendon P. The students' success brought great pride to Don Bosco High School, Panjim, and showcased the remarkable musical talent and creativity of our Boscoites. AYAAN N (CLASS VI) EXCELS IN KONKANI STORYTELLING COMPETITION At the 25th Shenoy Goembab Konkani Storytelling Competition, Ayaan N of Class VI secured an outstanding third place at state-level. Previously, Ayaan won First Place at the Taluka level of the competition. Ayaan’s participation in Konkani theatre has undoubtedly contributed to his growth as a storyteller, helping him develop confidence, expression, voice modulation and stage presence. His achievement is a matter of great pride and the school congratulates Ayaan on his remarkable accomplishment. THE GREAT WILDLIFE QUEST Arjit from Class X delivered a stellar performance and secured a commendable third-place finish in the Wildlife Runway competition. Part of ‘The Great Wildlife Quest: Guardians of the Wilderness’, the interschool competition was held by the host Sharda Mandir High School, Kadamba Plateau. The event was designed to foster environmental awareness and representing the school were students Yafi S, Zion M, Castiel V, Enoch B, Kayden R, Chris N, Ved P, Kayden F, Evan F, Gaurav R, Archit G, Jonathan M, Ojas V, Samuel G, Visheh P, and Shashwat K.  

SSC students belonging to the 2026–27 batch, recently participated in a spiritual retreat at the Light of the World Retreat House, Old Goa. The retreat provided the students with a meaningful opportunity to step away from their routine, reflect on their lives, deepen their faith, and prepare themselves spiritually for the important year ahead. The retreat was animated by Fr. Prakash (Director), Br. Cajetan Pereira, Fr. Apollo Cardoso, Fr. Simon De Melo, and Bencia Monteiro, who guided the students through prayer, reflection, sharing, and engaging activities designed to help them discover God's presence in their lives. For the students, the retreat was not merely a day of prayer but also a time for self-reflection, friendship, gratitude, and spiritual renewal. Through moments of silence, meaningful interactions, and guided reflections, they were encouraged to look within, recognise their strengths and challenges, and approach the year ahead with greater faith, purpose, and confidence Here’s what some of the students shared about their experience: “We were taught to discover our true selves and to be loving, caring and kind. The grand finale of the Inter-House Quiz Competition – The GOAT (Greatest of All Time) was a spectacular celebration of knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and presence of mind. Following a rigorous preliminary round involving nearly 130 participants, the top four scorers from each house qualified for the much-anticipated finale. Breaking away from the conventional quiz format, The GOAT featured a series of exciting and innovative rounds that challenged contestants in multiple ways. Participants showcased their knowledge and quick thinking in IQ Arena, solved mind-bending puzzles in Brain Baffles, and demonstrated creativity in Express Your Expression. The Word Grid round tested vocabulary, observation, and speed, while the crowd-favourite Taste Test challenged contestants to identify food items using only their sense of taste. The excitement continued with Follow The Instructions, where precision and concentration were the keys to success, and Lab Rat Showdown, which assessed the contestants' scientific knowledge through engaging hands-on activities. Each round demanded a unique set of skills, ensuring that the competition tested far more than general knowledge alone. The audience remained thoroughly engaged throughout the event, applauding the contestants for their confidence, adaptability, teamwork, and sportsmanship. More than just a quiz, The GOAT celebrated holistic learning by encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with their teammates, and perform under pressure. At the end of a thrilling contest, Tagore House emerged as the champions, while Gandhi House secured the runners-up position. The competition truly lived up to its name, inspiring every participant to strive to become the "Greatest of All Time".

Who knew saving the planet could be this much fun? In July, our school turned greener, cleaner, and more exciting thanks to the Eco Warrior Initiative, led by our cheerful mascot, Kai the Eco Warrior. Through fun activities and daily challenges, Kai inspired Boscoites to care for nature and become responsible citizens. The Daily Tree Spotting Challenge became everyone's favourite. Each morning, students eagerly solved clues to identify different trees around the campus, making them more observant and curious about the rich biodiversity surrounding them. The Quizards Club added to the excitement with a Wildlife Scavenger Hunt using a specially designed Wildlife Map of Goa. Searching for hidden wildlife treasures across the map was both fun and educational, helping students discover the amazing flora and fauna of our state. During recess, our Eco Warriors set an inspiring example by picking up litter—even if they hadn't dropped it themselves. Living Mahatma Gandhi's message, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," they showed that true service begins with small acts of kindness. Students were also inspired by daily stories of young environmental champions from India and around the world. Meanwhile, every classroom competed to become a Green Classroom Champion by reducing paper wastage, segregating waste correctly, and keeping classrooms clean. By the end of the month, the change was visible. Cleaner classrooms, less litter, and students reminding one another to care for the environment became part of everyday school life. Kai may be our mascot, but the real Eco Warriors are the Boscoites who proved that every small action counts. Together, they showed that protecting our planet begins with one thoughtful choice at a time.

The faculty of Don Bosco High School, Panjim, participated in an enriching workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) conducted by internationally acclaimed AI strategist and educator Leo Victor Zalki. Having conducted over 100 AI workshops and trained 5,000+ teachers and 15,000 students and professionals worldwide, Zalki introduced educators to practical AI tools for lesson planning, assessments, presentations, classroom engagement, and personalised learning. Through interactive demonstrations, teachers explored how AI can enhance productivity while supporting effective teaching. A major focus of the session was the ethical and responsible use of AI. Zalki emphasised academic integrity, data privacy, and the importance of verifying AI-generated content, reminding teachers that AI should complement—not replace—human judgement, creativity, and values. The workshop concluded with teachers feeling inspired and better equipped to integrate AI into their classrooms, reaffirming Don Bosco High School's commitment to embracing innovation while upholding ethical and responsible educational practices.

Glimpses of all the activities and achievements of the month! July 2026 Snapshots PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP The Filmit Club organised a photography workshop on 'The fundamentals of photography'. The session was conducted by Aneek Gaude and Vallan Fernandes, both avid photography enthusiasts, who shared valuable insights and techniques with the participants.  PHILATELY TALK The Philately Club and Heritage Club attended an inspiring talk and philatelic exhibition conducted by Dr. M R Ramesh Kumar, an eminent philatelist whose passion for stamp collection and postal history has inspired enthusiasts across the country. Dr. Kumar shared his remarkable journey as a stamp collector and highlighted how postage stamps serve as miniature windows into history, culture, science, art, and national heritage. The exhibition showcased an impressive collection of stamps, first-day covers, postal stationery, and other philatelic material from India and around the world.  ENGLISH HANDWRITING COMPETITION  Organised for Middle School, the competition highlighted the importance of precision, patience, and pride in one’s written work. The entries were judged based on various criteria, including legibility, letter formation, spacing, consistency, neatness, spelling accuracy, and correct use of punctuation. Congratulations to the winners: David P, Chirag M, Keith D, and Tanay B of Class V; Chris R, Calvin W, Yatharth N, and Rutvik U of Class VI; and Trevor M, Susom M, Arnav K, and Sahil S of Class VII. FEAST OF ST. DOMINIC SAVIO  A solemn Holy Mass and a special prayer service was celebrated on the Feast of St. Dominic Savio, the patron saint of youth, bringing together students, staff, and the Salesian community in thanksgiving and reflection. Through the readings, homily, a short skit and prayers, the students were encouraged to imitate his virtues of kindness, obedience, prayer, and joyful service. SOLO SINGING As part of the Feast of St. Dominic Savio celebrations, GEN-Z Voices, a solo singing competition was held for the High School students. One of the highlights of the competition was the heartwarming camaraderie among the finalists. Contestants readily provided musical accompaniment for one another, demonstrating that the true spirit of music lies not only in performance but also in supporting and celebrating each other's talents. An impressive display of talent, the winners were: First Place: Castiel V (Class 9), Second Place: Enoch B (Class 9), and Third Place: Yohann L (Class 8). ANNUAL RETREAT Class 10 students attended a one-day retreat at Old Goa, offering them a valuable opportunity for prayer. Through interactive sessions, group activities, and discussions on spiritual strength, relationships, time management, values, habits, and decision-making, the retreat encouraged personal growth and meaningful learning. The experience concluded with students returning inspired to face the future with renewed faith, confidence, and a commitment to living by strong values. SPELLING BEE Middle School’s brightest students celebrated their love for words last month as part of the feast celebrations. The competition witnessed students showcase their vocabulary and confidence through a series of challenging rounds. The winners were Haniel F, Aleto F, Keith D, Aarush S and Crisben D of Class V; Atsel S, Zacharias G, Chris F and Melfran R of Class VI; and Nabhish V, Shaurak K, Darryl C, Sahil M, Aditya B and Soumit S of Class VII. MENTAL MATH COMPETITION The Mental Maths Quiz Competition saw students of Classes V, VI, and VII showcase their exceptional skills involving speed, accuracy, logical thinking, and problem-solving in Mathematics. A preliminary written round tested students' mental calculation abilities within a limited time. Based on their performance, the top twelve students from each class qualified for the finals, representing their respective houses. Tagore House of Classes V-VII secured the first place while Gandhi House secured the second place for all three classes as well.  INTER-CLASS FOOTBALL  Class X students participated in the Inter-Class Football Tournament and a Football Tie-Breaker Competition in July. More than just sporting events, the competitions gave the students an opportunity to create lasting memories with their classmates during their final year of high school. In the Inter-Class Football Tournament, Class XC emerged as the champions, while Class XA finished as the runners-up after a series of exciting and closely contested matches. The Football Tie-Breaker Competition, held as a separate event, was equally thrilling. Class XD claimed the championship, with Class XA finishing as the runners-up.

A parent workshop on 'Fostering Healthy Digital Habits and Supporting Children in Achieving a Balanced, Productive, and Emotionally Healthy Lifestyle during Their Board Examination Year' was conducted on July 25, 2025 with a total of 46 parents in attendance. Key speaker Prof. Lucette Virginkar addressed parents on students' study patterns and emphasised the importance of connecting and communicating with children rather than allowing conversations about studies to become repetitive or sound like habitual excuses and pressure. Parents were encouraged to understand their children's needs and support them through positive communication and meaningful engagement. Speaker Sulaxa Gawas conducted an engaging and interactive, activity-based session that helped parents understand the influence and implications of the digital world on children. A SWOT analysis activity was conducted, enabling parents to reflect on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with children's digital habits and usage. The session was highly interactive and equipped parents with practical insights and essential skills to help their children foster healthier digital habits, maintain a balanced lifestyle, manage academic demands, and support their emotional well-being during the important board examination year.

Don Bosco High School, Panjim, held its Investiture Ceremony for the academic year 2026–2027 under the theme, ‘Educated to Serve – Becoming the Gift You Were Created to Be’. The ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Kinley D'Cruz, vice-rector of Don Bosco Panjim, as the chief guest, along with Headmaster Rev. Fr. Avin Carvalho.  The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a prayer service, a Gospel reading and a reflection highlighting that true leadership is founded on service, humility and responsibility.  The newly elected Student Council, including the Head Boys, Junior Head Boys, Sports Secretaries, House Captains and Vice-Captains, were formally invested with their badges of office and took the oath to carry out their duties with sincerity and commitment.  In his address, the chief guest inspired the young leaders to lead with integrity and a spirit of service. A leadership development programme was also organised for the student leaders of Don Bosco High Schools from Panjim, Tuem and Oros at the Provincial House, Odxel, Dona Paula. The day-long programme was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Ralin De Souza, who conducted engaging and interactive sessions on leadership, teamwork, effective decision-making and personal development. Through a variety of activities and discussions, the participants were encouraged to strengthen their leadership qualities, work collaboratively and lead with confidence, responsibility and integrity in their respective schools.

The excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026 reached fever pitch at Don Bosco High School, Panjim, as students and staff came together to celebrate the world's biggest football tournament with a series of engaging activities in the run-up to the grand finale. The celebrations transformed the campus into a vibrant arena of football enthusiasm, highlighting the school's commitment to promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. One of the major highlights was Jersey Day, where students proudly arrived dressed in the colours of their favourite national teams. The festive atmosphere was complemented by football-themed classroom activities, with Class IV students showcasing their creativity by designing and displaying their own unique football jerseys. Teachers encouraged students to embrace the values that football represents—discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork—while celebrating the global spirit of the game. Adding to the excitement was the World Cup Prediction Challenge, which generated tremendous interest across the school. Students were invited to predict the World Cup Champions, Runners-up, Golden Boot winner, Golden Glove winner, and Golden Ball winner, and submit their entries into a specially designed Prediction Box. The challenge kept students eagerly following every knockout match as they waited to see whether their predictions would come true. After the tournament concluded, the students with the most accurate predictions were rewarded with exciting prizes, making the competition one of the most anticipated events of the World Cup celebrations. The countdown to the final also sparked animated discussions throughout the school. Students and teachers confidently backed their favourite teams, with many passionately supporting either Argentina or Spain. Predictions, friendly debates, and football conversations echoed through the corridors, creating an atmosphere that truly reflected the excitement of the World Cup. By blending creativity, competition, and a shared love for football, Don Bosco High School turned the FIFA World Cup into a memorable learning experience. The celebrations not only strengthened the sporting spirit among Boscoites but also reinforced the school's belief that sport is a powerful tool for building character, fostering unity, and inspiring young minds.  

The school initiative highlighted that a daily exercise routine can nurture discipline, mindfulness, inner strength, and overall well-being. On International Yoga Day 2026, Don Bosco High School (Panjim-Goa) staff and students came together with great enthusiasm and active participation to highlight the importance of exercise. The school successfully promoted the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle. The activities for the day exemplified the role physical wellness plays in creating harmony between the body and mind. Special sessions were organised for students and staff, where they practised various breathing exercises and relaxation techniques under the guidance of the Physical Education teacher and trained Yoga instructor Sir Asif Sheikh. The session encouraged everyone to embrace exercises as a part of their daily routine for a healthier life. The message conveyed on the day was that daily exercise is not merely a fitness endeavour but a way of life that nurtures discipline, mindfulness, inner strength, and overall well-being. Adding to the spirit of the occasion, 30 students of Don Bosco High School (Panjim-Goa), accompanied by the Physical Education teacher Sir Diogo Gomes participated in the yoga programme organised by the Government of Goa at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium.  

This school year will draw a renewed emphasis on emotional well-being and an informed awareness on digital dependency.  As part of the school’s continued commitment to creating a supportive, balanced, and student-centred learning environment, Don Bosco High School, Panaji, conducted its Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) meetings across all sections — June 13 for the primary section, June 15–17 for the high school section, and June 18–20 for the middle school section. Recognising that education extends beyond academic achievement and includes the emotional and psychological well-being of every child, this year's PTA meetings placed special emphasis on mental health awareness, digital wellness, and strengthening collaboration between home and school. As part of this initiative, the school was honoured to welcome Sulaxa Manesh Gawas, a distinguished mental health professional from Panaji, Goa, recognised for her extensive work in clinical psychology, counselling, education, and youth well-being. Having led over 500 awareness and training programmes, Gawas shared valuable insights on building resilience, promoting emotional wellness, and helping families navigate the growing challenges of excessive screen exposure and digital dependency. In collaboration with the school’s in-house counsellors — Celiz P. (Primary School Counsellor), Siddhi N. (Middle School Counsellor), and Nancy R. (High School Counsellor) — Gawas will support the school in developing sustained mental wellness initiatives aimed at nurturing healthy coping mechanisms, emotional resilience, self-awareness, and positive behavioural practices among both students and parents. A key focus of this collaborative effort will be the Class X batch of 2026-27, with structured workshops and parent engagement programmes designed to help families support their children through academic demands, manage stress constructively, and create environments that encourage confidence, mental balance, and success. Guided by the vision and strong leadership of Rev. Fr. Avin Carvalho, headmaster, Don Bosco High School (Panaji) continues to reaffirm that student success is built not only through academic excellence but also through emotional strength, meaningful relationships, and a strong partnership between school and family.

An avid learner, student Keenan D. has shown great prowess in science and technology and has cemented his passion for these subjects with his most recent win.  Don Bosco High School is delighted to congratulate its student Keenan D. on his remarkable achievement at the prestigious Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition. Organised by the Greater Bombay Science Teachers' Association, the competition draws roughly 100,000 students annually from hundreds of different institutions across Maharashtra and neighbouring states.  Keenan was awarded the Silver Medal in the Practical Round and the overall Bronze Medal in this highly competitive, multi-stage programme that seeks to nurture young scientific minds. The competition evaluates participants through a rigorous process comprising an online examination, practical assessments, an interview, and an action research project, testing not only scientific knowledge but also its practical application. The award marks a proud moment for Keenan, his family, and the entire school community. We congratulate Keenan on this outstanding accomplishment and wish him continued success in all his future endeavours. May his achievement inspire fellow students to pursue excellence in science, innovation, and research.  

The young students were delighted by the vibrant, ocean-theme classrooms and corridors, which set the stage for another fun-filled, creative school year.  On June 10, St. Dominic Savio Kindergarten marked a joyful beginning of the new academic year. The teachers welcomed the little learners back to preschool with a colourful and vibrant theme full of nautical wonder and sea-creatures. The children arrived with bright smiles, excitement, and curiosity, making the school come alive with happiness and laughter. The day was filled with warm greetings and children reconnected with their teachers and settled comfortably into their learning environment. The kindergarten section looks forward to a wonderful year ahead filled with learning, creativity, growth, and memorable experiences. Here's to a happy and successful preschool journey for all our young learners!  

With AI impacting the education space, the programme invited teachers to ensure that learning still remains deeply personal, human and transformative.  As part of the preparations for the new academic year, the teaching staff of Don Bosco High School participated in an orientation programme led by the Headmaster Fr. Avin Carvalho. Introducing the theme for the year, “Educated to Serve – Becoming the Gift You Were Meant to Be,” Fr. Avin encouraged teachers to be a gift to their students by nurturing not only their minds but also their hearts. He emphasised that while artificial intelligence and digital platforms continue to transform education, the most powerful learning experiences remain deeply human. The session highlighted the need to move from mere information-sharing to meaningful learning, from memorisation to interpretation, and from compliance to engagement. Teachers were encouraged to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and active participation in their classrooms. Fr. Avin also stressed the importance of building strong relationships with students and helping them become discerning consumers of media by evaluating sources, identifying biases, and seeking diverse perspectives. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to creating learning environments where students can grow, flourish, and discover their unique gifts in the service of others.  

The theme for the Academic Year 2026-2027, which was officially introduced on the day, set a promising tone for the coming school year.  Don Bosco High School Panjim reopened on June 6, 2026 after a refreshing summer vacation, welcoming students back to campus with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Drawing inspiration from the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup, the inaugural prayer service reminded students that just as every player on a football team has a unique role to perform, each one of us has a special contribution to make within our families, the school, and society at large. The prayer service also introduced the theme for the academic year, 'Educated to Serve – Becoming the Gift You Were Meant to Be.' Students were encouraged to view education not merely as a path to personal success but as a means of discovering their unique gifts and placing them at the service of others. Service will continue to remain at the heart of every endeavour undertaken by the school throughout the year. With hearts full of hope and a shared commitment to growth and service, the Boscoites look forward to another enriching and rewarding academic year.  

The grand spotlight of the day, Black or White – A Rhythmic Reckoning, conveyed a powerful message on “inner engineering”. On April 22, 2026, in keeping with tradition, Annual Day at Don Bosco High School, Panjim was celebrated with great pomp and fervour. The evening was a vibrant tapestry of talent, gratitude, and inspiration, witnessed by a packed venue of parents, alumni and well-wishers. The event was graced by Alexandre Moniz Barbosa, an independent journalist, writer and  editor of Goa Daily  as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Barbosa lauded the school’s commitment to holistic education and urged students to remain curious, compassionate, and courageous in a rapidly changing world. He also appreciated the Annual School Report 2025-26, presented by the coordinators, which highlighted the school’s academic achievements, co-curricular milestones, and community initiatives through the year. The cultural segment opened with heart-warming performances on “Zoo” from Zootopia by the pre-primary section. Their innocent expressions and colourful costumes set a joyful tone for the evening. This was followed by the primary section students who captivated the audience with energetic dance on “Fireworks”, drawing loud applause. A solemn and emotional moment followed as the school felicitated five retiring teachers—Tr. Cheryl Prazeres, Sir Rapose Francis, Tr. Sanderina Andrade, Sir Dattaram Kerkar, and Sir Dominic Gomes for their decades of selfless service. Silver Jubilitarian Tr Rekha Madkaikar, who completed 25 years of service at Don Bosco, was also honoured at the event. Their contribution to shaping generations was honoured with mementoes and citations. The highlight of the evening was the grand musical Black or White presented by the middle and high school students. Through awesome acting, energetic dance sequences, and soulful singing, the musical conveyed a powerful message on “inner engineering” – that true change begins within, and harmony is found when we look beyond external differences. The seamless coordination, striking visuals, and compelling storyline left the audience deeply moved. The entire evening was navigated flawlessly by our student comperes, who anchored the programme with poise and confidence, ensuring smooth transitions and an engaging flow. With gratitude, we salute our teachers for their hard work, patience and their pursuit for perfection in training the students. Annual Day 2026 concluded with the vote of thanks by our Headmaster Fr Avin Carvalho. The school anthem was sung with great fervour, resonating with the ethos, leaving everyone with a sense of pride, nostalgia, and renewed purpose. It was truly an evening where talent met tribute, and learning met celebration. As we carry these memories forward, we are reminded of the enduring Don Bosco spirit — to learn with joy, to serve with humility, and to grow into responsible, compassionate individuals. Guided by his teachings, may we continue to walk the path of reason, religion, and loving-kindness, striving not only for excellence but also for goodness in all that we do.

With over nine participating schools, the event recognised the talent of many budding artists in Goa including two students from DBHS-Panjim. The FilmIt Club of Don Bosco High School, Panjim, successfully hosted and organised this year’s INTACH Filmit Festival on the school campus. Over nine schools joined the festival with around 70 participants including teachers and students attending the day-long event. It was a vibrant celebration of creativity and heritage filmmaking. Dr Isabel Santa Rita Vaz, a playwright, theatre director and founder of the Mustard Seed Art Company, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr Vaz encouraged the students to boldly pursue creative expression. Also joining the festival as a speaker was Fatima Gracias, convenor, INTACH Goa Chapter, who spoke about ongoing projects by Intach HECS (Heritage Education and Communication Service) in Goa. The festival was also honoured by the presence of Purnima Datt, principal director, HECS, who gave an introduction on the origin of FILMIT club and its purpose, which was followed by the screening of selected films such as Kingfisher Diaries and Goan Heritage. The festival concluded with students of the different schools being commended for their outstanding work. Don Bosco High School’s Prathamesh H (XA) won Best Film for ‘Mission Failed: Hasn’t It?’ The short film revolves around a school's observance of gratitude day. It distinctly presents the narrative from three separate perspectives: the school head boy, the class monitor, and the class students. Speaking about the project, Prathamesh explained, “The film integrates mild comedy, plot twists, and unforeseen progressions. It effectively communicates the importance of  leadership and the valuable insights adapted from errors.” For his short film ‘Godde’, Cansio D (VI B) won the Best Interactive Film award. The film captures the nostalgic charm of the kids marble game (goti) while also exploring its history and popularity. Shot in Nikon Z50, the three-minute film was captured, directed and edited by the student himself. Many such enthusiastic entries were recognised and awarded at the end of the festival. The FilmIT club is committed to nurturing and encouraging budding artists and filmmakers in their creative pursuits.  

Students attended an informative seminar on safe online engagement and how to report suspicious/harmful behaviours in the digital space On January 6, 2026, the Directorate of Education, Government of Goa, organised a Cyber Safety and Digital Awareness Workshop at Mushtifund School, Cujira. The workshop was led by Dr. Rakshit Tandon, a renowned cybercrime expert. The session focused on educating students about safe browsing habits, understanding cyberbullying, social media safety, and protecting personal data on the internet. Important issues such as online gaming safety, sextortion awareness, and reporting mechanisms for suspicious or uncomfortable online behaviour were also addressed. The workshop was informative and interactive, helping students become more aware of responsible digital behaviour and equipping them with practical knowledge to stay safe in the online environment.  

Retired Air Vice Marshal Giles Gomez offered an in-depth look into this lesser known world that included not just his service in Jammu Kashmir but also his foray in aeromedical sciences. As part of the on-going career guidance initiative, the school welcomed Air Vice Marshal (Dr) Giles Gomez VSM (retired) to conduct a meaningful, explorative session on the life of an Indian Armed Force personnel. Ever since Gomes hung up his uniform and returned to his home state, Goa, he has been committed to highlighting the good work being done by the dedicated IAF.  Gomez shared his personal career trajectory which started after he graduated from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College,Pune, and thereafter was commissioned in the Armed Forces as a medical officer. He served his first five years in the Army and was posted at the Line of Control on the western sector and at high altitude in  Jammu & Kashmir, where he was involved in live operations.  Students also learnt about the Air Force, where Gomes specialised in Aerospace Medicine. In 1989 he was sent for further studies with the Royal Air Force in the UK and became the first Indian national to obtain a post graduate Diploma in Aerospace Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians London.  It was intriguing for the students to learn about the ample learning opportunities available in the IAF. Gomes spoke about his training in Space Medicine at NASA Johnson Space Centre, Houston, USA after which he became a NASA certified Astronaut Medical Trainer. Recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal by the honorable President of India in 2011, Gomes also walked through his time commanding the Aeromedical Training Centre at Hindon, UP, and the prestigious Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Bangalore. He was instrumental in setting up the Space Medicine facilities at Bangalore, which is being used for the current ISRO Gaganyan Space Program. Students were amazed to discover the different areas of service and specialisations that are possible in the IAF. It was a truly enlightening and much appreciated session.  

Fr. Clive Teles’ provincial visit to the school was a “homecoming” event bringing back cherished memories Don Bosco High School, Panjim, had the honour of welcoming the provincial Rev. Fr. Clive Teles, during his annual Provincial Visitation on December 17, 2025. The occasion held special significance as Don Bosco Panjim, established 79 years ago, is the cradle of the Salesian presence in the region, standing as a beacon of Salesian education and values that continue the rich legacy envisioned by St. John Bosco. Fr. Teles graced the assembly of the high school section, marking a significant moment for the students and staff. As part of his pastoral responsibility, he visited 19 other Don Bosco institutions across the province. Reflecting on his earlier years at Don Bosco Panjim, where he had served for a few years, he described the visit as a “homecoming,” filled with fond memories and gratitude. Addressing the students, Fr. Teles emphasised that they not only wear the uniform of Don Bosco School but also embody the spirit of Don Bosco. Highlighting St. John Bosco’s teachings, he reminded the students that true character is reflected in being honest even when no one is watching. He reiterated that Salesian institutions are committed to holistic education, nurturing young minds to become responsible, honest, and compassionate citizens. He noted that over 410 Don Bosco institutions across India have been imparting quality education to the young, preparing them for life and service to society. In his concluding message, Fr. Teles extended his best wishes to the Class X students, encouraging them to face their forthcoming board examinations with confidence, discipline, and faith. The visit was both inspiring and affirming, strengthening the Salesian spirit among the students and staff of Don Bosco High School, Panjim. Fr. Teles along with our Principal, Fr. Avin Carvalho, also released the school bulletin Rhapsody, the last-quarter special seasonal Christmas edition. The visit served as a powerful reminder of the school’s mission to educate hearts as well as minds, echoing Don Bosco’s words, “Education is a matter of the heart.”

The school won six trophies and emerged as overall champions at the annual interschool event promoting green awareness  It was an historic moment for Don Bosco High School Panjim when it clinched the championship trophy at Ecofiesta 2025. Organised by the Auxilium High School (Caranzalem), Ecofiesta 2025 is an annual interschool competition wherein eight schools actively promoted eco-friendly ideas in a creative and competitive environment. The event was held on November 28, 2025.  Keenan D (IX), who won the first place in the t-shirt painting competition Eco-Art, created an inspiring handpainted design showcasing his dream for a greener and better future for the earth. Zubin D (VIII) and Shritij K (IX) won first place in the skit competition Eco-Dialogue, wherein they presented an animated interaction between two elements of nature, mainly a bird and a tree. Nathan G (IX) and Rahul S (VIII) won third place in Eco-Quiz competition that covered a multitude of environmental topics and issues. Grayden F (IX) submitted an impressive entry for Eco Expressions, the theme being “Wings of Goa” that put a spotlight on unique bird species found in the state. The winning group had the dynamic support of a strong behind-the-scenes team, namely Faizan K, McAiden S, Aldrich X, Justin A and Valen F. All the participating students were trained and supported by high school co-ordinators Julius F and Eustargia R.

For the first time in school history the game included a female player joining the otherwise all-boys team The management and staff of Don Bosco Night High School and Don Bosco Night Higher Secondary School organised a football match to celebrate the students of both institutions on November 14, 2025, on account of Children's Day. The match was played largely by the Arts and Commerce section with Class 9 and Class 10 students joining in to strengthen the team. By joining the all-boys group, Class XI Commerce student Shanti made history as the first and only female player to join a school sports event. The students were thrilled to find Aaron Cardoso, a referee of national repute and alumni of the high school, officiate the match. The game witnessed an exemplary display of team spirit by the commerce group. They won the match with an impressive score of 4-0 with student Mario as the top scorer of the match.  Night School Manager Fr. Avin Carvalho addressed the students before the match and motivated them to bring the same enthusiasm to school everyday. The match ended with refreshments for all and a big sense of satisfaction in everyone's hearts.

The school’s counselling department organised an impactful series of seminars as part of the academic year’s career guidance initiative.  The month of October 2025 was an informative month for our Class X students who will soon embark on a new chapter in their lives. Through a series of well-structured and impactful career workshops, the students got to broaden their understanding on what’s next for them in line with their personal interests and aspirations. Each session provided valuable exposure to various professions, enabling students to make informed and confident decisions about their future academic and career paths. Our Future Leaders On October 3, 2025, an inspiring session titled “Our Future Leaders” was conducted by Allwyn Sequeira. His impactful and motivational workshop focused on growth, resilience, and self-belief. The session encouraged the Class X students to adopt a positive mindset and pursue their goals with confidence and determination. His passion and energy left a lasting impression on the students, helping them reflect on their personal development and leadership potential. Higher Secondary Choices On October 14, 2025, Menino Furtado provided Class X students with a comprehensive overview of career options across various academic streams—science, commerce, and arts. Mr. Furtado discussed emerging fields, skill requirements, and future job trends, helping students make informed decisions about their academic and career paths. The workshop was thought-provoking and helped clarify many doubts among students regarding subject selection and professional choices. Engineering On October 15, 2025, the faculty from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda–Margao, comprising Prof. Yeshudas Muttu – Electronics and Computer Science, Dr. Chetan Gaonkar – Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Jeffery Valadares – Civil Engineering, and Prof. Viosha Cruz – Computer Engineering conducted a highly engaging and interactive session that provided students with in-depth knowledge of the engineering field. Each faculty member explained their respective branches, the career prospects, and academic requirements for pursuing engineering. The session enabled students to understand the diverse opportunities within the engineering sector and inspired them to explore their interests in science and technology further. Merchant Navy and Seafaring On October 13, 2025, Deepak Souza, Heston Dias, and Nelson Fernandes of the Goa Maritime Officers Association (GMOA) introduced the students to the career opportunities in the Merchant Navy and Seafaring sector. The speakers explained the eligibility requirements, various courses, fee structures, and loan facilities available for aspiring candidates. The workshop gave students a clear understanding of the lifestyle, discipline, and dedication required in this career path, motivating many to consider it as a viable and rewarding profession.

A former student of Don Bosco returns to the campus to sow seeds of enthusiasm among young aspiring gardeners We recently welcomed back one of our past pupils, Cleto Fernandes, this time as workshop speaker. Fernandes is presently pursuing his higher studies in agriculture, and is deeply passionate about plants and nature.  His love for greenery truly shines through his words and work. He conducted an interactive session on kitchen gardening for the students of Class VI and shared the thrill of creating his own successful gardens and farms. During his talk, Fernandes guided the students through every step of the process—from sowing seeds and nurturing seedlings to creating compost and finally harvesting the produce. The session was lively and informative, with students eagerly asking questions, all of which Fernandes answered with enthusiasm and clarity. His practical tips and genuine passion inspired everyone to try growing their own plants at home. It was truly an enriching and inspiring experience for our young learners. We thank Fernandes for sharing his knowledge and wish him continued success in all his future endeavours.

Earlier this month, high school students participated in an interactive and comprehensive session on HIV/AIDS  A special awareness program on HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) was conducted by the Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS) at Don Bosco High School Panjim. Attended by students of Class 9, the informative program fostered an environment of open dialogue and encouraged destigmatisation of social issues among the younger generation.  Speaker Arpita Korgaonkar from GSACS conducted the interactive talk and highlighted important aspects of HIV prevention, causes, and the myths related to the disease. Students were informed about the modes of transmission, the importance of preventive practices, and the need to show empathy and support towards people living with HIV. The session, which was facilitated by the school’s Red Cross club, also emphasised on the role of the younger generation in raising awareness, making healthy lifestyle choices, and becoming responsible citizens. Students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their views, making the programme highly engaging and informative. The school expressed gratitude to GSACS for their efforts in educating the students and empowering them with the knowledge to contribute towards a healthier society.

The club’s recent photowalk encouraged a deep dive of beloved, local architectural gems, with their experience captured in a treasured collection of photographs  The shutterbugs of the FilmIT club of Don Bosco High School Panjim went on a memorable photographic expedition on September 23, 2025. Over 40 students from Class V to X explored the Old Goa church complex under the guidance of teachers Grisha Paiva, Hayden Gonsalves, and Julius Fernandes. This year’s expedition was also mentored by photographer Lynden Barreto.  Equipped with their personal cameras, students were encouraged to capture architectural elements, human activity and still moments that were visible in the heritage precinct. While these were familiar sites for the students, they were guided to explore the arena through the creative lens of their budding photography skills. With eager eyes and fresh minds, the students captured one heritage site after another, enhancing their skills with each single click.  The walk covered significant landmarks such as the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, notable sites around the Archeological Museum, Chapel of St. Catherine, St. Cajetan Church, Convent of Santa Monica and Chapel of Weeping Cross, and Ruins of the Church of St. Augustine. The teachers as well as mentor Barreto guided the students to observe and notice hidden details as well as the everyday life unfolding around the heritage complex. Students were also given feedback after each capture, which allowed them to refine their skills on the spot.  Looking back at their captures, students shared good insights on what they had learned on the walk. For example, student Aarav Redkar of Class VIII A offered the following caption for one of his images:  “The lone St. Augustine Tower rises like a timeless sentinel, its weathered bricks whispering forgotten tales of Goa’s golden past. Mirrored in a rain-puddle, it seems to stand twice—once in history, once in memory.” After this enriching expedition, the FilmIT club returned to the school campus with a treasure trove of photographs. Students were fascinated to see scientific concepts being used in real-life applications   On August 5 & 7, students of fifth standard went on an educational tour to the Goa Science Centre & Planetarium, Miramar. The visit was both enjoyable and informative, giving the students an opportunity to learn through observation and hands-on experience.  They explored various exhibits related to physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy. The interactive models and experiments sparked their curiosity and encouraged them to think scientifically. The highlight of the visit was the 3D show, the science magic show and the planetarium, which made learning more exciting. Overall, the tour was a memorable experience, helping students to connect classroom lessons with real-life applications. Excursions like this play an important role in education as they take learning beyond the classroom, provide real-world exposure, and make concepts easier to understand. They also help in developing social skills, teamwork, and a spirit of inquiry among students.

The school event proclaimed a definitive message: in freedom, we find roots; in goodness, we find growth; in hope, we find forever. On 15th August 2025, Don Bosco High School, Panjim, celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. All sections gathered on campus to mark the occasion in the presence of the Chief Guest Shri Rohit Monserrate, the honourable Mayor of the City of Panjim. The oath was administered by the Headmaster Fr. Avin Carvalho. The chief guest was given a warm welcome and escorted by the smartly turned-out National Cadet Corps, which added to the pride of the event. After the unfurling of the National Flag in the presence of dignitaries, staff, and students, the entire campus echoed with the strains of the national anthem, sung with pride and devotion. A striking highlight of the ceremony was the beautifully curated lotus backdrop, shaped as a vision built to last. The petals unstained, set free, invoked a quiet call—on what can be, in truth, together with goodness and beauty, marked with a hope that forever flows. This creative work, designed by the talented Visual Art crew of Don Bosco High School, provided a meaningful and symbolic setting for the day’s programme. The formal ceremony was followed by a cultural programme conducted by the students. As the melodious patriotic song Vande Matram filled the air, a choreographed routine was performed with passion, reverberating with the spirit of nationalism. A well-presented skit highlighted the values of freedom, evoked a sense of responsibility and good citizenship among the audience. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, the school management, teachers, students, and all who contributed to making the day memorable. The Independence Day celebration at Don Bosco High School was indeed a blend of pride, patriotism, creativity and promise for a brighter tomorrow.

In his recent talk, the rector inspired us to “not remain an outsider but be an insider in the Don Bosco spirit”. On October 11, Rev. Fr. Tamatur Cardozo, rector of Don Bosco, Panjim, addressed the staff of Don Bosco High School in an enriching and inspiring session. He spoke about the essence of the Don Bosco culture, emphasising how it gives every member of the institution a sense of pride, belongingness, growth, and happiness. Fr. Tamatur highlighted that this culture is not just a tradition but a living ideology that unites the Bosco family and calls for consistency and commitment in every educator. He reminded the staff that to be a true Bosco educator, one must embody the values and spirit of Don Bosco in thought, word, and action. To embrace the ethos of Don Bosco, tradition, the style of working, to believe and share the conviction which unifies us. He further emphasised the four pillars of Don Bosco institutions—God, Family, School, and Playground, which together form the foundation for nurturing students towards excellence, character, and holistic development. The session concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the teachers, who felt motivated to carry forward the Don Bosco spirit in their classrooms and community.

Theatre artist and director Runal Kolkankar impressed on the participants the power of subtle, non-verbal communication. A mime workshop was organised for the students of Classes 8-9 on September 19-20. Teachers Hazel Carvalho and Janet Furtado das Chagas e Silva organised the workshop and were met with an enthusiastic response from the students. The final selection of participants was at the discretion of the teachers in charge. Held in the school’s multipurpose hall, the workshop was led by Runal Kolkankar, a theatre artist and director known for his expertise in mime, street plays and creative dramatics. Kolkankar, through several workshops across Goa, has inspired many young talents to explore theatre as a medium of expression. Assisting him was Sakshi Manjrekar, a dynamic facilitator of performing arts who specialises in activity-based learning and has experience working with students to build confidence and creativity through theatre. Teacher Mayuri Naik along with the teachers in-charge assisted in the smooth and effective flow of the workshop, which was held over the course of two days. The sessions proved to be highly interactive and practical, keeping the students fully engaged and enthralled. Kolkankar and Manjrekar introduced participants to the fundamentals of mime, focusing on body movement, facial expression, and the power of silence in communication. Students were encouraged to participate in warm-up activities, group tasks and short mime performances, which made the sessions lively and enjoyable. Through this enriching experience, students were given a unique opportunity to explore their creative side as well as appreciate the art of non-verbal communication.

Keeping the annual tradition alive, the students put together a heartfelt and well-executed Gratitude Day celebration. From entertaining performances to thoughtful gestures, Don Bosco High School students went the extra mile to express their thanks towards teachers and the school staff. The event, orchestrated by the student council, included a mix of reflective, creative, and entertaining segments. The day began with a special assembly conducted by the Nehru House and the teachers in-charge. Each year in the month of September, the school community comes together to acknowledge both the big and small contributions of the dedicated staff. This year not only did the staff receive beautiful handmade cards and flowers, many teachers and non-teaching staff were surprised and moved by the thoughtful, personal notes they received from the students. In individual classes, students put together a special program for their assigned teachers and staff. Students recited short gratitude speeches, performed meaningful songs and made colourful posters and decor; expressing their thanks in the most creative and joyful manner. Gratitude Day has always been an occasion for fellowship and community building in the school, and this year students and teachers made the best of this opportunity. For the entertainment portion of the day, a band of student musicians put together an electric performance. The teachers declared the show an absolute hit with their cheerful applause. After this musical extravagance, comedy was the next big hit. Headboy Prathamesh and his talented troupe performed a slapstick skit titled “Kaun Banega Roadpathi – Season Two”. There was room for more laughter with “Jeremy, We Have an English Problem”, a play inspired by the cherished old-school sitcom Mind Your Language. Through humorous dialogues, not only did the play entertain the audience but also subtly communicated the importance of clear communication, patience, and helping one another learn. A big shout out to former student Franklin Stephen who volunteered and created a beautiful Gratitude Day decor in the school lobby. The academic year theme, ‘Anchored in Hope, Rise in Hope’, was beautifully interpreted in the decor. An enchanting and inspiring design, it became the go-to selfie spot for teachers and students alike. Among all the pleasant memories made that day, there was a sense of renewed commitment towards the mission of the school and the joy of being part of a vibrant community.
